THE BEEGEES SONG BOOK -
SO WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?
In 1958, 3 brothers, born on the Isle of man, formed one of the most successful bands in musical history.
Barry, Maurice and Robin initially started in a band called the Rattlesnakes in the mid 50's, playing Skiffle and Rock and Roll in the Chorlton area of Manchester. In the late 50's they moved to Queensland, Australia.
Under the name The BG's, which were the initials of band members Bill Goode and Barry Gibb, the band had success in the Australian charts and made regular appearances at the Redcliffe Speedway.
They moved back to The UK in the 60's, now using the name The BeeGees, representing the Brothers Gibb.
In 1967 they had their first UK No1, with Massachussetts. From then they proceeded to write and release music which lead to a career that spanned over 6 decades, selling over 120 million records worldwide, with estimates up to 200 million, making them one of the most successful acts of all time.
The BeeGees most successful era was undoubtedly the 1970's where their soundtrack to the film Saturday night fever, which included songs such as Staying Alive and You should be dancing, won 5 Grammy awards and went 16 times platinum in the US, defining the sound of the Disco era.
The band were inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame in 1997, stating at the time that the only acts to have outsold the BeeGees were Elvis, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Sir Paul McCartney.
With 9 number 1 hits on the Billboard hot 100, the BeeGees are the 3rd most successful band in Billboard history.
